Across crisis-stricken Europe ‘ghost’ airports have freshly painted tarmac, shiny new doors and all the nuts and bolts in place - but no passengers and no airplanes, giving them an eerie aura. Soaring costs have delayed the ribbon cutting ceremonies, as Europe’s worst recession in 100 years has killed the projects. The European Commission dispensed millions of euro in funding to boost the infrastructure at regional airports, but they are waiting for travelers and planes that never came, and have become symbols of reckless spending. “The difficulty you have with the European Union is that ultimately it has all this money that it wants to divest in patronage through grants and all sorts of different sinecures, throughout the land of the 28 nations, and it wants to try and make an economic...

The aim of the re-categorisation of the ICAO Wake Turbulence Separation Minima (RECAT) is to safely increase capacity at airports by redefining wake turbulence categories and their associated separation minima. In Europe, RECAT-EU divides the ICAO Medium and Heavy categories into two categories each, and also creates a Super Heavy category for the Airbus A380. In October 2014, following a thorough stakeholder consultation and detailed review of the safety assessment, the European Aviation Safety Agency confirmed that the RECAT-EU safety case is solid. The first deployment of RECAT-EU is now planned for Paris-Charles De Gaulle in 2015. Significant costs are expected to be incurred from new security measures on flights to the United States. The costs will likely be borne by airports, airlines and passengers. The airports with the most U.S.–bound flights in Europe are London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt, Amsterdam Schiphol and Dublin. However, there was also some relief that the new measures would avoid an extension of the ban on passengers bringing large electronic devices such as laptops and tablets into cabins. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/domesticNews/~3/_l6zB2F18e4/us-usa-airlines-electronics-europe-idUSKBN19K1UC http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
